Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: 95 suberban ac noise, chevy suberban, drive belt tensioner

1995 chevy suberban.  The ac is making a rattling noise intermitently it also whines.  When you turn ac on the car seems to idle rough and when you turn it off the noise goes away and the car runs better. A repair shop told me it's the compressor going out. they said I should relpace the comprssor, receiver/dryer and orafice.  All for a whopping $875.00 does this sound like correct procedure for this problem?  Thanks,

Hi.Candis,If you got about 80k miles on that compressor.I would recommend replacing it.Be sure the system is flushed in that quote.Oh!yeah and if their wrong,you got a free a/c job until it`s fixed right! another part that makes that similiar noise is the drive belt tensioner.The spring in the tensioner get weak after awhile and in turn makes the fan belt loose and stretched and noisey w/ a/c on.
