thank you so much for helping me out with this,but i dont have the big expensive meter all i have is a small one i bought at autozone it read like 40psi but you know what else i think i have a leak cause this morning i pushed the a/c button and it didnt turn on so i relly dont know what to do i cant afford to bring it to a tech what do i do?

with over 200,000 miles on it pretty sure it has a rebuilt motor,anyway my a/c stopped blowing cold so i bypassed the low pressure switch and the compressor came on but there is no pressure in the system so what should i do next

Hello Joey,First check if there is enough freon.If not,you should locate all leaks.Chevy trucks have weak compressors and evaporators.When that system is working properly its very cold.
Don`t change any parts until you locate the leaks if any.

there were no leaks. i put in a can of freon and the compressor came on ,so that means the low pressure switch is ok ,but still not cold i added the right amount of freon according to the pressure gauges what else do you think it could be ,what should be my next step mr.david?

Joey, I need to know your pressure readings when the a/c is on and running.I may be able to tell once your give me the reading from both gauges.write back with results-ok!

hi joey,Well dude, you gotta find someone who has a freon leak detector. It sounds like you got a good size leak. if you say you got 40psi reading with a/c off, it loss alot of freon.A/C is off -the standing psi should be around 95psi. That system takes 2.50lbs of freon to fill totally.Did you charge up to that amount? I`ll be honest dude,unless you can get the use of some gauges,it`s guess work. I gotta know the high and low readings while the vehicle off and with the engine running with a/c on.It will make one hell of a difference if you can make it happen.Let me know.
