Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: Intermittant cold from air conditioner, initial diagnosis, accurate diagnosis

Question
2001 honda civic. I had the car worked on due to intermittant cold air, the initial diagnosis was a dead mouse in the system and low freon... the service shop then called back and said the compressor had gone bad.  I decided not to have the compressor replaced and confirmed with them that the system had been properly recharged.  The air conditionor worked fine for about a week and now is working intermittantly again, mostly not working.

is this really a bad compressor, or are there other possibilities?

Answer
Hello John,Low on freon is usally a leak in progess and it`s pointless to charge because it won`t hold the charge.
Should always locate leaks if any and get corrected first. If the compressor is going bad, that usually means its either leaking or lost its pumping strength to move freon thru the system. If they added 1lb. freon for that system, that`s about half its charge and there`s a good indication a leak or leaks are happening.Have them recheck it with a more accurate diagnosis.Hondas also have weak evaporator coils too, they leak alot.

Good luck,Davidt
