Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: AC system, chevy k1500, ac components

Question
I have just completed an entire rebuild of the AC system on my 1989 Chevy K1500 truck.  After replacing all components (compressor, evaporator, accumulator, condensor, orifice tube, and all lines) and adding 6 oz. of PAG oil, I evacuated the system and it held vacuum. So I tried to charge w/ R-134.  The R-134 doesn't seem to be entering the system and the low side pressure approaches 60 PSI without the clutch engaging.  All wiring is good and the compressor engages when I jump the low pressure switch.  The low pressure switch is brand new as well.  Is is possible that it really didn't evacuate when I though it did?  PLEASE HELP!

Answer
Usually a new compressor comes with a full charge of refrigerant oil already in the compressor.

Did you dump out the oil from the compressor and measure how much was in it ?.

Then you added an additional amount of 6 oz of refrigerant which now you have to much oil in the system which is most likely why you can't get the freon in it.

How much vacuum did it hold and for how long ?.

Did you follow the directives on how to put oil in EACH component BEFORE you install them ?

I have an older booklet which still holds true today on how to replace AC components. Would you like an e-mail of the instructions ?
