Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: Failed AC compressor, power steering pumps, freon refrigerant

Question
Hi,

I recently bought a certified preownded 2004 nissan altima. it's been driven 4000 miles by me (46000 total till date) and 1000 miles back i got my car checked for some kind of recommended check by nissan agency. I cancelled my extended warranty as i thought i can manage without that. Today my cars compressor went bad and i have been given an estimate of 800$.

Is Extended warranty a concept to fool a customer in a more sophisticated way. What can i do about it?

Answer
Extended warranties usually cover major components such as engine, transmission, rear axle, differential, Power steering pumps, alternators and A/C compressors.

The down side is they will pay for the compressor ONLY. You pay for the freon, refrigerant oil, and hoses or small parts.

If your going to buy an extended warranty policy buy the one offered by the vehicles manufacturer. It is a much better policy although quite expensive.

The aftermarket polices net the salesman a big commission for selling you junk vs selling you the manufacturers policy which nets him very little.

Your stuck to spend the $800.00
