Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: 1997 Ford Escort A/C failure, electronic leak detector, fan mode

Question
I have a 1997 Ford Escort.  Recently my a/c has stopped working. Instead, only warm air comes through.  This is also true if I just use the normal fan mode.  When I first bought the car the a/c worked really well and was actually cooler than most a/c systems I've experienced.  Do you think that the refrigerant or something could have leaked out and needs to be replaced?  What else could be wrong?

Answer
That is the most likely probability, Whereas you have a leak somewhere in the system and all the freon has leaked out.

You will need to have some freon installed in the vehicle and utilize an electronic leak detector in order to find the leak. Once the leak is fixed you MUST evacuate all the air from the ac system using a vacuum pump and then recharge the system with freon.
