Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: Air Conditioner Question, internal compressor, buick century

Question
My 99 buick century air condition is running cooling great. It just started making a noise like a dying Wookie when I accellerated. When I turn the air off, it stops making the noise. If I drive with the cruise on and avoid extra accelleration, no noise. If I rev the engine in park, no noise.

I took it to the shop, and they want to replace the Compressor, reciever drier and orifice tube.

Is it possible they are overfixing it? Can a compressor be repaired not replaced? Is there a certain type of repair shop I should seek out to get a repair instead of a replace? Would some grease on a bearing fix this? I really hate part with 1200$ on a car that is six years old with 160,000 miles.

Answer
Most repair facilities these days are to lazy to repair the compressors as they make more money on replacing them instead.

trying to find a facility who will FIX one is almost impossible.

depending upon what is wrong with the compressor determines if you have to replace the other components.

If it's just a compressor bearing, NO you would NOT have to replace these other parts UNLESS the bearings has started to come apart and has spraed some metal into the ac system and or the problem is an internal compressor problem that has spraed debris also you would havt to replace the other components.
