Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: A/C intermittant compressor failure, nissan xtera, high pressure hose

Question
I have a 2000 Nissan Xtera who's A/C worked very well until one year ago when it began blowing hot air intermittantly.  It will run intervals of blowing wonderfully cold air then randomly blowing hot air in 2 mins to 20 minute cycles. It occurs whether the air is on recurculate mode or not.  It occurs at any fan speed.

It is completely random, is not associated with touching the controls, whether I am driving or idling, nor it is timed to when I start the car, how long I have been driving, nor any driving conditions.  Once while idling, it was blowing hot air, I heard a click like the compressor truning on and it began blowing cold air.

This is not a subtle change in temperature, it is a dramatic change that happens rapidly.

The dealership said I had a leak in a high pressure hose.  It was replaced and worked well for 2 weeks when the problem returned.  They found no leak in the new hose, nor any electrical shorts.  I thought it might be a faultly low neon switch on the dryer, but they said it was working well.

I am at wits end.  Any ideas?

Answer
What is a  neon switch ?.

IF your HIGH and LOW side pressures are OK according to the A/C gages, then your problem is most likely within the programmer and or damper door controls.

Without physically seeing what pressures are reading on the system, during the compressor cycling, There are various possibilities.
