Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: auto air conditioning, chevy suburban, pressure gage

Question
my 1996 chevy suburban, has 134a refrigerant at 34psi low side, compressor engages properly but does not cool down (line to evaporator is warm), does it have an expansion valve or orifice and is it plugged  or is there line filter plugged . That is the only thing I can think of.

Answer
yes there is an orfice tube(expansion valve) in the system. Go purchase a new one so you will know what your looking for.

You will need a vacuum pump to extract all the air from the system AFTER you replace the orfice tube BEFORE you recharge the system with freon.

The ONLY filter is the ACCUMULATOR (receiver/drier) and this rarely needs to be replaced unless the system has been opened up and left open for quite some time and or there has been a leak in the system and it has been sitting with no freon in it.

QUESTION: What has been done previously to the A/C system ?. How LOW does the low pressure gage go before the compressor disengages ?.
