Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: High pressure on low side, internal compressor, reed valves

Question
The ac on my 96 Eldorado (90k) stopped blowing cold last fall and the compressor started making a rattling noise. I figured it was a lack of refridgerant/lubrication.
I just went to recharge it and found 155 psi on the low side with the compressor on or off. The system worked fine prior to this. What could cause this and how do I repair it? Thanks much!

Answer
Are you POSITIVE your on the LOW side port ?.

When the A/C is OFF, The internal pressures of the A/C will equalize between the high and low side pressures and YES it could read 155.

If the LOW side is actually reading 155 with the A/C ON, The most probable cause is debris from an internal compressor fault is restricting the internal compressor REED VALVES and or the ORFICE TUBE is restricted with compressor debris.

Repairing it requires:

1. removing the orfice tube, accumulator, compressor, flushing out all the lines with an A/C flushing solution to get all the debris out from the lines, condensor and evaporator.

then you have to replace the compressor, accumulator, orfice tube, "O"-rings, gaskets, install the CORRECT amount of refrigerant oil in the system, compressor, accumulator, Evacuate all the air from the system, Check it for leaks and recharge it with freon.

Also a set of A/C gages is a MUST.
