Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: Panel/Floor Air flow, wiring harnesses, plastic vacuum

Question
I have a 1994 Ford Ranger.About seven months ago AC/Heater air flow suddenly would only come through the defrost vents no matter where I push the control lever. In March it just as suddenly switched to only the dash panel vents. Now in June the air flow is coming out of the floor vent.It seems like I didn't have this problem until my son installed a new CD/Radio. Could he have knocked something loose in the process? I'm handy with tools, Is it something I can fix?

Answer
Sounds like he may have accidently broken the PLASTIC vacuum line that originates on the engine and goes thru the firewall and into the passengers compartment.

This vacuum hose is usaually a small diameter black plastic tube that is sometimes hidden with the wiring harnesses that go into the passengers compartment.
