Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: 2002 Cavalier, chervrolet, speed problem

Question
I have a 2002 Chervrolet Cavalier LS coupe 53,000 mi. No problems until now. For the heat and a/c there are four settings (low, med, med-hi, high). The low and med settings do not work at all, only the med-hi and high settings do. It's a pain. I'm always either too hot or too cold. Is this a major problem or can this be fixed easily? I also noticed just yesterday that when I had the a/c on, the engine revs up (the rpm gauge goes up) and when I'm stopped, it sounds like I'm revving my engine. This only happens when the a/c is on. Can you help with this problem also? Thanks.

Answer
Your blower speed problem is most likely caused by the BLOWER SPEED RESISTOR.

The increased rpm's are most likely caused by the engagement of the A/C compressor and is considered NORMAL.

See if the problem is resolved if you turn off the A/C system.
