Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: Sqeaking when AC is on, aerosol spray, compressor failure

Question
I have a '98 Honda Civic with 100,000+ miles.  When the AC is on a squeaking sound occurs.  It sounds like it might be a belt but the sound stops when the AC is turned off.  The belts were replaced last year.  Any ideas as to what this may be?

Answer
Spray the belt with a SILICONE aerosol spray and see if the squeek goes away.

If the belt has ANY cracks in the grooves on the underside of the belt, Install a NEW belt.

If the noise continues after spraying the belt or re-occurs within a day or two or when you turn ON the A/C you may have the start of an internal A/C compressor failure.

Have you had ANY work performed on the A/C system lately or within the last 6 months ?.
