Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: 91 Honda Civic DX A/C Compressor, honda civic dx, clutch bearings

Hi,
I have a 91 Honda Civic DX and the A/C Compressor makes an awful squealing sound, especially when the A/C is off.  My guess is the A/C clutch bearings have gone bad. Since I live in Alaska and it is winter, for a temporary fix, can I just slip the belt off the pulley?  It appears the belt only runs the compressor.

BEFORE you go faulting the bearing try a simple test.

Either go to any parts store and purchase an aerosol spray can of BELT DRESSING or you can use any type of silicone spray and when the belt is making this noise spray the belt and see if the noise goes away, If it DOES, It's NOT the bearing.
