Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: no heat, dodge dakota sport, heater hoses

Question
i have a 1998  dodge dakota sport , 4 wheel drive , magnum v6 with no heat .
i have changed the t-stat twice, and once by a shop. i have had the radiator flushed and anti- freeze changed , still no heat . i feel the presence of heat coming out the vent when the fan blower is on the lowest setting , but just a slight feel of heat , any other setting of the blower and cool air comes out .  a'c works fine. temp guage seems to run slightly above normal , mid range on the guage , seems to run a tad hot. the two hoses that run into the fire wall seem fine , even though i do not know what their supposed to feel like . the flapper in the heating duct all seem to work properly.  i beleive it could be the heater core , if so , is that something a person with auto reapir experience could change or should i bring it to a dealer or shop ?...thanks....RICHIE

Answer
At NORMAL operating temperature of the engine, BOTH heater hoses should be HOT to the touch.   Are They ?.

What is the repair history on the vehicle. ALL repair history of anykind.

Are you getting coolant flow thru the heater core ?.

Have you had any engine OVER HEATING recently.?.

With the radiator cap OFF can you physically see coolant flow within the radiator at a high (1500 rpm) engine speed ?. You will have to drain about 2 or 3 quarts of coolant from the radiator in order to see the coolant flowing thru the radiator vanes.
