Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: Jeep ac, r 134a refrigerant, e mail address

Question
I have recently purchased a r-134a conversion kit for my 1990 jeep cherokee it has a 4.0 litre strait 6 in it and I can't get the system to charge. It will not take any freon or release any. I can hook up the line and the gage will pressure up to canister pressure but will not go into the system. Can you help?

Answer
If you can't get any refrigerant to come out of the A/C system than you have got to have a LEAK in one or more of the A/C components.

1. You have to find and fix the leaking component(s).

2. You have to EVACUATE all of the atmospheric air from the A/C system with the use of a VACUUM PUMP.

3. You have to install the EXACT amount of refrigerant (freon) oil per the vehicle manufacturers specifications.

4. You have to install the EXACT amount of R-134a refrigerant (freon) of which will be a different amount from the vehicle manufacturers specifications as I believe in 1990 they still used the old R-12 refrigerant (freon).

This is NOT a job for anyone who does not posess the technical skills and or has the proper A/C equipment to do the job correctly.

If you mess it up it will cost you 4 times as much had you had it done professionally the FIRST time.
