Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: ac, wireing diagrams, refrigerant hose

Question
Hi, We have a 1990 corrola.Last week it stopped blowing cold. The compreesor won't turn on.If I connect a hot lead to it it works fine.I followed the lead all the way to the relay box,if I put  a 12v source to it, the clutch kicks in.I can't seem to find out what feeds this line. There are 3 ac relays, main engine relays, fan relays. I have tried switching some of them [ there are a few of the same kind ] still no luck. The other thought is the ac turn on switch on the dash, the light turns on but i'm not sure if power is getting out of it.The wireing diagrams I have suck. Any suggestions? It's driving me nuts.Yes it's filled with freon. Both high and low side switches seem to be o.k.
Thank you,
Randy

Answer
OK, When you apply battery voltage directly to the A/C compressor, Of which is NOT recommended beyond 3 or 4 minutes at a time, Is the refrigerant hose and the receiver/drier (accumulatos get normally very cold to the touch and or does a small amount of frost appear upon the above said components ?.

I need to know so we can continue with the diagnosis.

If you have the ability to e-mail pictures, Please take several pictures of the components of the A/C system within the engine compartment so I can see exactly what your system is composed of.

Every manufacturer has a different configuration and with pictures it is much easier to guide you along with your diagnosis. You can e-mail the pictures to me at:

Has there been any work of any kind what-so-ever performed on this vehcile. Not just A/C work, ANY WORK ?.
