Auto body repair & detailing: Monte clear coat peeled

Question
Hi Dave, I gave this a shot this weekend.  It did not turn out well.  While feathering the edges, I accidentally sanded thru the paint on some spots!  I went up to Advance & got Dupli-color match.  I put 3 coats on, but I think I got too close on the 2nd, & got a small run.  It was also a nightmare getting the fuzz off before each coat.  I didn't think about picking up a tack cloth.  Also, I had to spray next to a dumpster outside my apt.  I put on 4 clear coats.  I can also tell where the clear coat edges were, but it looks much better than it did.  Maybe I'll be happy?  I'm guessing I should buff it out next, but how long should I wait to cure?  & what should I use?

Answer
Hi Greg!....Thanks for letting me know how it went. In regards to getting a run in the base coat, the same applies for removing a hanger in any paint application/step, be it sealer, base coat, or clear coat. Let it flash off, leave it for another 1/2 hour or so, and then you should be able to wet sand the run out. Re-apply which ever coat you have sanded, and then move on to the next step. As far as the fuzz is concerned, not too sure what you are referring to, but maybe because having sprayed outside, it could just be dry spray, or dust. As far as polishing, unless you had to use lacquer, there should be no problem doing it this weekend. The product that I would recommend, is a 3M one again. It is a  micro polishing compound used for fresh paint. Sorry I don't have the part number available. If 3M is not available, just check out Advance again, and see what they recommend for fresh paint polishing. As for the FULL cure time on any paint job, it is actually 30 days.....Hope this helps you out again Greg. If you have any problems, drop me another line anytime.....Thanks.....Dave
