Auto body repair & detailing: Hyundai Sonata hood, lisence plate, fender bender

Question
Our Sonata was in a fender bender with a small size Chevy truck. The Sonata hit the back of the truck ; his under the truck spare came off & there is no damage to the Chevy.
The Sonata's lisence plate was bent from the trailer hitch stem .The bumper and grill are fine .
The question is the hood ;the Sonata has slight creases in the passenger side hood from the impact; the hood latches fine but on the passenger side there is a few inches of open space instead of it closing flush .
We have a $1,000 deductable and are trying to decide if we should just pay out of pocket for repair .Please advise as to typical cost for uncreasing a hood

Answer
Hi Nancy!....From your description of the damage, in saying that the hood closes and latches fine, leads me to believe that there should be no upper uni-body frame damage....If there was upper frame damage, the hood and latch assembly will bind when closing....If that was the case, the uni-body would need to be squared up to resolve this problem....So, in my opinion,( without seeing the damage ), it sounds like this should be just a replacement of the hood....I have checked out the " Cross Canada " website for you....An average price for a hood for this vehicle is $350 dollars....It will need to be refinished on the underside first of all....Roughly .5 hours....In my area, the door rate is $75 dollars an hour....So the cost is about $37.50....The top side cost to refinish is usually around 3.5 hours, including Clear Coat....Cost should be around $262.50....The fenders will need to be  " Blended " to achieve the propper color transformation...Usually another 1.0 hour each...$150 dollars....Total cost, in my estimate, is around $800 dollars....Please remember, that this is just an estimate, as door rates and prices will vary from area to area....Drop me a line anytime, if you have any further questions...I would be more than happy to help you out....Thanks....Dave
