Auto body repair & detailing: Intentional Crazing, red paint, tin foil

Question
I have a newer motorcycle with a vintage look. I am having it painted red & white.  I would like to enhance the vintage look of the bike by having the red paint crazed under the clear coat. Can this be accomplished?  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Kenneth,

There are a couple of ways you can do this. House of Kolor makes a product called Marblizer. Here's a link: http://www.houseofkolor.com/speedshapes/speedshapes_artistic.jsp. To get the most effect these are typically done over black base. The other way you can achieve this type of look is spray a slightly darker red base first and let it dry completely. Next spray a slightly lighter color red and while it's wet use plastic wrap or tin foil or something to lay over it in the base while it's wet then pull it off. Once that dries you could complete the process with an even lighter color if desired. Allow your last coat to dry at least 1 hour then clear-coat everything.
