Auto body repair & detailing: fender removal, fender bolt, splash shield

Question
How do you remove and replace front passenger fender on a 2000 cavalier?

Answer
Hi Wanda!...First of all, you will need to remove the RHS wheelhouse splash shield...Generally, it will be held in place with a 1 or 2 piece push in clips, and a couple of screws where it attatches to the rear of the fender...From the inside there, you will be able to gain access to the center fender bolt at the rear edge of the fender...There will be also 1 or 2 bolts at the bottom, which are accessable from the outside, and attatched to the rocker panel...There will also be a top bolt...Open the door, and you should be able to see it from there, where the fender attatches to the body, just underneath the "A" pillar...It is also possible that you might have to remove the cowl panel, or just the right hand side of it if it is a 2 piece panel...A lot of manufactures are famous for hiding a fender bolt underneath it...Once this is done, you will then need to partially remove the front bumper cover..Check at the leading edge, and there should be a screw/bolt run up vertically...Remove this...You will now need to remove the fasteners attatching the cover to the bottom of the rad support, and on top where it attatches to the top of the rad support...My suggestion is to remove them completely on the top and bottom on the front, but to leave the left hand side intact...Once this is done, you will now need to remove the headlight...After that, you will finally just need to remove the bolts on the top of the fender...To reinstall, just exactly reverse the procedure...If you have any problems, write me back, and I will try and walk you through it..Thanks...Dave
