Auto body repair & detailing: door hinge, dodge ram 1500, door hinge

Question
Hi there, i have a 99 dodge ram 1500 that has a sagging drivers door.  I replaced the hinge pins and that helped but didn't completely fix the sag. It looks as if the hinge part, that bolts to the truck not the door, might be adjustable.  If that's the case, i can simply loosen all four bolts raise the outer end of the door and re-tighten the bolts.  I'll obviously need a helper! Are they adjustable where they connect to the truck itself?

Answer
Hi Marty!.....Yes, they are adjustable at the hinge or " A " pillar....Both the upper and lower hinges are slotted for this type of adjustment....You will need a 13mm wrench, or socket and ratchet for this....If the door has sagged, generally it will be the bottom hinge that will need the most adjustment, as it is the load carrying one...If you don't have a helper, what you can do, is to use a floor jack....What I do in a case like this, is to wrap a small piece of 2x4, (4" x 4" works well) with a towel or shop rag and simply place it in the floor jack cup....This will prevent damage to the paint on the door....Position the jack at the very back edge of the door, and gently raise the jack until you relieve the pressure on the door...Now you can loosen the body side hinge bolts without the door dropping on the floor...Then adjust accordingly....Hope this helps...Please write back if you have any more concerns...Thanks.....Dave
