Auto body repair & detailing: 2006 cobalt front end damage, programmed robots, fine cars
cobalt
I have a 2006 cobalt that my daughter rear ended someone doing about 50 mph. The right side of the frame where the bumper reinforcement mounts is pushed back about 5 inches. My question to you is were do I find measurement specs for comparing the two sides and what is the best way to check exactly how far its off. The left side is fine.

Answer
Cars today are built primarily by computer programmed robots at the factories. If you raise up
your Cobalt and make a inspection of the unibody, there will be sections with precision matched
holes. Robots have clamps and pins for hands, and these holes are for that purpose along with
some options or added equipment available.
Find Two of them close to your rear wheels or just ahead of them and make a cross measurement
right rear to left front, then left rear to right front with measurement made at the center of
each hole to the tip of the front rails.Measure each side direct as well front to rear.
If you can't find frame specs. Go to a dealership and look at one that hasn't been hit and
make the same measurments. This should solve the problem Scott.
