Auto body repair & detailing: being over charged, job, body shops

Question
ok this car cost $536 to fix but the guy is charging over $1000 in labor is this right

Answer
Hi Sean,

You should try to get a second estimate for the repair. I have often seen body shops be several hundred dollars difference for the same type repair. Body-shops typically charge by the labor hour, and that rate will change depending on what part of the country you're in. The industry standard I believe is around $55 per hour. So if he has figured the job will take him 18 to 20 hours to fix that's probably a close estimate. I don't have any idea as to the type of car or damage you're referring to so I really can't give you any indication what you should be looking at.
