Auto body repair & detailing: Clear coat, light coats, flash time

Question
I painted my car with base coat and cleared it with clear and had a lot of orange peel, so I would like to reclear it, but I had a couple of area's that I burned threw with the sanding, so I would like to reapply the basecoat and reclear it, my question is how long do I have to wait?

Answer
Hi Rick,

I assume you mean how long must you wait before you can reapply the base? If you have already sanded it you should be able to reapply base now. I would stress though go with super light coats on the base over the sanded through areas. Super light coats with lots of flash time between coats.

If you have any wrinkle begin to appear between coats of base use 800 or 1000 grit to lightly sand out the wrinkle and apply another super light coat of base. You may have to keep fighting it until you get a coat that doesn't wrinkle.

Allow your final coat of base to dry a minimum of 4 hours before clear coating.
