Auto body repair & detailing: Front Fender Removal, chevy caprice classic, chevy caprice

Question
I have a 1976 Chevy Caprice classic (2 door) I was wondering how to take the fender off?

Answer
It's going to be a lot of work. Remove the front bumper and headlight panel. Remove the hood. Now, the inner fender and outer fender are bolted together but need to be removed as one unit. There is a bolt on top of the cowl, one down around the hood hinge, possibly one at the bottom of the fender. Open the door jamb, there is one or two bolts in the jamb. There are several bolts holding it to the radiator support, and you might have to remove the battery tray. There is at least 1 big bolt in the wheel house panel- up near the cowl ,an possibly one at the rear corner down by the frame. Remove the front wheel. Now, tape up the door edge to keep from damaging it while removing the fender. Start wiggling the fender, see if it's loose, or if there are any wire looms and hidden bolts still attaching it to the car. Having a helper here would be great. Once you are sure it will come out of it's place, ease the front out away from the radiator support, pulling out and up a bit. once it clears, pull the fender forward to get the rear mounting tabs clear of the door. It should come right out. Bill
