Auto body repair & detailing: dent and rust, 2005 toyota prius, toyota prius

Question
QUESTION: Hello, I recently took my car to the dealer for inspection, oil change, tire rotation etc. They also wash and vacuum the car as a courtesy. Two days later I noticed a dent in my rocker panel under the back door on the passenger side. Upon further inspection I saw that it had started to rust in a tiny spot when the paint had been crushed, other than that spot there is no sign of scratching or scraping at all. I took it back to the dealer who strangely did not have the walk around dent inspection paper that they always do before getting into a vehicle. hmm, convenient. They insist it couldn't have happened 2 days ago because it was rusted already. I'm caught between a rock and a hard place right now. Small claims? BBB? CEO? I've been informed by other sites  and body shops that rust can occur overnight if the paint is broken. Could this have occured on a lift or automated car wash? What is your expert opinion? Thanks, elaine

ANSWER: Elaine, what year is your car also what state do you live in. Also try and take a picture of the damage so I can inspect it.  Thanks Laren

QUESTION: Hi Laren, My car is a 2005 Toyota Prius and I live in central Pa. I've enclosed a picture. Thanks again, Elaine

Answer
Elaine, This is a unfortunate situation for you but I cannot say with any certainty were this dent came from. Living in Pa you could possibly get a small amount of surface rust in just a couple of days. If the dealership wants your business in the future they might fix it for you. Good Luck, Thanks Laren
