Auto body repair & detailing: Toyota Sienna trunk door leaking water, toyota sienna xle, rust hole

Question
We have a 2002 Toyota Sienna XLE. The van has been smelling rancid and mouldy for a while. Thought maybe it was because of food hidden somewhere (it was not) This past weekend we opened the carpet in the bak floor trunk and it was all wet. We are not sure where thsi wetness came from but i am positive that this is why the van is smelling. I donlt think it is safe for my kids to smell. We also noticed that some days when we open the trunk, water would drip out from the edges of the trunk bottom door but neve r thought anything of it. Don't know where the water is coming form and I am worried as I have two small kids smelling this day in and day out, What can we do?

Answer
Hi. Without seeing the van I cant do much for you. Historically speaking; floor drain plug missing, side window cracked open during rain or car washes, rust hole in an upper panel of sorts and or hole in the floor. Most common would be poor weather stripping around the door seal. A dealer is your best bet to begin the process of finding the leak. As for once it is found, details companies can remove the smell and mold if any. Not an uncommon problem you are facing. No worries as to cure. See the dealer and be ready to leave the car for a short period of time. If they cant find the problem; you chose the wrong dealer. Hope this helps. Have a great day and turn over to dealer. David
