Auto body repair & detailing: plastic bumper repair, urethane bumpers, bmw m5

Question
Where can I get a good plastic bumper repair in South Jersey?
I have a 2001 BMW M5 with right rear bumper damage. It is ripped about 6 inches and has a hole the size of a half dollar. I know it will be cheaper to repair than to replace as the bumper also has parking assist sensors. Also, what do you think a repair like that would cost so I don't get ripped off. I am not opposed to having a body shop remove the cover and repair it.

Answer
Hi John. Urethane bumpers are typically replaced more often than fixed once they are torn or have a hole in them. Urethane repairs have not been proven to last and will eventually crack upon the slightest impact in the future. You will probably see bodyshops bid for new in this case. New will only be about 25% more than the average repairable bumper. Replacement will be between 850-1300 on the West Coast. I am not familiar will East Coast pricing. Should be very close though or less. New is the way to go here John. Get a lifetime warranty in writing and make sure color is dead on. New bumpers from BMW do not come painted. The prices I gave you include all you need to make new again except for any hidden damages they find behind the bumper. A good shop will want to take the bumper off the car before agreeing to a final price. Very common. A shop may suggest reconditioning the bumper for 25% less. I do not recommend this operation. I hope all works out for you John; I am sure it will! Last thing; go to a shop that family and friends have recommended via a great experience. Thanks again John. David
