Auto body repair & detailing: minor body repair, fingernail polish remover, soap and water

Question
I think my question is a pretty easy one.  My wife brushed up against a metal gate with our car.  There is now some marking on the side of the car which I think actually came off of the gate and onto the car, I don't think that the paint is scraped too badly.  When I run my hand across it it feels like it is profiling up and not dug in.  My question is what can I use on that part of the car to get these marks off of the car.  Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Answer
Hi Richard,

So if I understand correctly there was paint from the metal gate that transferred onto the car. If that's the case you can probably use some fingernail polish remover. There are also many types of overspray removal products available which would do a good job. Check this one out: http://www.repaintsupply.com/pd_clay_overspray.cfm

You basically use these with soapy water as a lubricant and rub onto the paint you want to remove. After you're finished, wash good with soap and water then use a light polish by hand to bring the gloss out. I hope this helps.
