Auto body repair & detailing: Paint and Clear coat on a 2000 Silverado LT, door hinge, car makers

Question
I recently had a lady run into my truck on the right side.  There was damage to the bumper, grill, fender and hood.  My question is this: Does GM apply clear coat to the engine compartment side of the hood and fender.  I have really taken care of that truck and I do not recall the paint on the inside of the hood being so rough when I washed it before as it is now that I got it back from the body shop.  Thanks for any help!  Stewart

Answer
Most all your car makers spray the paint in one operation, everything is painted all at once, including the inside. The vehicle will go down the line with doors and hood open when sprayed. The jams do not get near as much paint as the outside is the reason it looks a little different under the hood and trunk or in the door hinge area. That said, the paint inside your fenders should be smooth with a light clear over the base coat.
