Auto body repair & detailing: replacing fender flares on a 1997 Jeep Wrangler, rear fender flares, channel lock pliers

Question
QUESTION: I have purchased fender flares for a 1997 Jeep Wrangler and I thought it would be a simple operation to replace the old onnes, but I am finding it very difficult to figure out how to remove the rear fender flares. Can you give me direction or advice on how to do this?
Chuck

ANSWER:   These are bolted from the inside of the car. There also is a plastic nut inside the flare that may spin so you will need a pair of vise grips or channel lock pliers to hold the nut.

QUESTION: HI Mike
Thank you for the answer. I know they are bolted to the inside of the car The problem is how do I get to the U bolts on the inside of the car, especially in the rear. It looks as if there is a metal covering over the rear wheel well in car. Do I have to take this off. It seems like it is a big project. Plus I have purchased access to the Factory online manual and there is no description on how to get this wheel well off to get to the fender flares. I cannot find anywhere how to get a description or instructions on how to get these fender flares off. I know they come off because there are replacement flares for off road usage.
Please can you help get me more detail on how to get these off.

Answer
The wheel well s are welded in. If you do not see the bolts inside, then they are in the wheel well area. Make sure you do not have any trim blocking your view. Feel around the area where the bolt should come through the body, usually about a half inch from the edge of the flare.
