Auto body repair & detailing: 1981 elcamino driver/passenger window trim, weather strip, weather seal

Question
I have a 1981 elcamino with chrome trim around the top of the passenger and drivers windows the door posts are rusted and I need to remove the trim to repair it what is the easiest way to do this while saving the trim to put back?

Answer
Kelly, I mis- read your question, and actually gave you a wrong answer- I thought you were removing the windshield trim, not the door post trim. As memory serves, you need to remove the weather seal from the window run channel, and there are screws holding on the molding inside the run channel. Be careful before proceeding, I think that the weather strip is glued in, and it's almost impossible to remove the weather strip without ruining it. I could be wrong on both counts I haven't worked on a car like this for a long, long time. If the molding is just snapped over the edge of the pillar, like a drip rail molding, it's going to be next to impossible to get it off without causing at least some damage to it. That type of molding was never really intended to be reused after removal. Sorry about my Freuidian slip and good luck with your ElCamino project! Bill
