Auto body repair & detailing: Replacing a door on a Honda Civic, haynes manual, weather strips

Question
Hello,

I have a Honda Civic 3 door 2002 1.4 and I need to replace the drivers door, I have been to a mechanic who wants to charge over £300 in labour. How difficult is this to do, would I be able to do it myself with a Haynes manual or is this about the price I would expect to pay to have the door replaced?

Thank you
Ken

Answer
Labor and paint for this job would be about $550.00 US plus repairing or cleaning up the used part. Installing the door itself is not a big deal. The major part of the job is to disassemble the new part, paint it and put it back together. I do not believe you will need any special tools.
The reason we disassemble the new part is to try and make the job look like it was never repaired. If you mask off all the mouldings and weather strips, you will see paint lines, a tell tail sign the car has been wrecked.
