Auto body repair & detailing: Paint Blending, alpine white, rubbing compound

Question
I am going to repaint the front quarterpanel of my Alpine white '87 BMW.  I have the correct paintcode but obviously over time the paint on the car has faded/yellowed etc. and the newly painted quarterpanel will look a little brighter/shinier.  What do you suggest to blend the colors a little bit?  I have been told that overspraying onto the other panels a little bit will help, but i don't want to make more trouble for myself - the other panels are fine, and by spraying basecoat on,  A) i'm not sure if there is prep-work i'll have to do to the paint on the other panels for the fresh paint to adhere (scuff it with scuff pads?), B) the gap between the quarterpanel and the other panels provides a barrier and even if there are slight differences in paint color, the eye naturally seems to blend the two.  What all is involve in color blending...overspray? prep? rubbing compound?  I will be doing a basecoat as well as a clearcoat.  Thank you for taking the time to help me out!

Answer
I suggest that you buff the ajacent panels back to the orinal color and shine first. Then paint your damaged panel only. When you unmask the painted panel if the colors arnt close then scuff the ajacent panel with a grey scuffbright. Mask of and blend that panel. If you have prob. or more questions write back.

         Hope this helps
