Auto body repair & detailing: 2002 Chrysler Sebring Convertable Bumper Replacement, sebring convertable, lamp filament

Question
I've been involved in an auto accident and the front bumper on my Sebring has been replaced along with the grill.  They did not replace the headlamps.  Immediately after the accident my driver's side headlamp quit working on low beam.  The shop wouldn't fix it as part of the repair so I bought a new light bulb assembly and stopped at two places to have it replaced - at my expense.  Neither place could reach the bulb assembly and they cannot remove the headlamp either.  Both have said part of the bumper or engine will have to be dissambled to get the headlamps out.  This did not used to be the case.  Is it possible that the new bumper is different and that the old headlamps don't fit as they are supposed to?

Answer
Chrysler , in all their infinite wisdom, assembled the car with the headlamps having to go in before the bumper cover goes on, so they are correct. Complain to your insurance company, I firmly believe the blown bulb is accident related. If the lamps were on during the accident, then the lamp filament stretched out, terminally weakening it. It would have worked for a short time, but failed soon after being pressed back into service. I suggest having both bulbs replaced- for that reason, and for how difficult it is to access the lamp. bill
