Nissan Repair: Car sputtering and shaking, nissan altima, air bubbles

Question
I have 2005 Nissan Altima.  I recently took it to have my back tires replaced.  The guy told me I only needed one.  I got one tire replaced but still seem to be having a lot of shaking with my car when I go over 55 or so.  Additionally, my car has been acting like it wants to cut off when I'm driving or at a stop light.  It hasn't but it's sputtering more than I'm comfortable with.  Also, I'm about 3,000 miles over the suggested oil change. I'm taking it in Friday to be serviced but fear I may be low on oil.  Should I put a bottle in now to be safe?

Answer
Treena,

Always replace tires in axle sets.  That is, two on the front or two on the rear.  I would go back and get another tire for the other side.

If the car is sputtering try a tank or two of premium gas and a bottle of lucas fuel treatment.  I would not recommend other types since Nissan does not recommend fuel treatments.  I have had good luck with Lucas cleaning things up without damage to fuel injection components.

I would check your oil in the morning or after the car has sat for an hour to make sure it is in the pan and you get an accurate reading.  You want to pull the dipstick and wipe it off and then reinsert it and then pull it to check the level.  You do not want oil that is too full or under full.  Between the marks is correct.  If it is low add until it is at the full mark.  At the lower mark to the upper mark is one quart.  If it is not low just get the oil changed.  But, never let it run low as it will damage your engine as will having it over full.  Too little and it will suck air and damage the bearings and too high and the crankshaft will hit the oil and cause it to foam and get air bubbles in the oil and that is just as bad.
