Auto body repair & detailing: 2000 Dakota LH fender removal and installation, course supt, inner fender

Question
I just bought a 2000 dakota quad with drivers side fender and headlight damage.  It lookes to be bolted and spot welded to the inner fender.  I'm a golf course supt. not a body man is it easier to replace the inner fender and fender then it is to try to seperate the two. Some of the spot welds are in tight places i can't get into.  I've been trying to find a good used one (having trouble with the color white) or should I just get an aftermarket one. If I do get an aftermarket I'm not sure if it comes with a inner fender the discriptions are vague.
thanks for any help

Answer
The fender isn't meant to be drilled apart like a bedside, it's all 1 big part, comprised of a few different pieces welded together. Removal is a big undertaking, you need to remove the bumper and  headlamp, the hood hinge from the body, support the hood, and then find all the bolts holding the fender assembly to the cowl and radiator support. It may be easier to figure out once you have the replacement part, you can see where all the attaching points are. You will likely have trouble finding a replacement part, used, that is the right color. Aftermarket and factory panels come with black primer on them, so a visit to the body shop is inevitable- unless you know how to use professional paint products. A rattle can from Auto Zone just won't cut it. This is one of the most difficult fenders out there to remove, you might want to consider having it professionally done. Bill
