Auto body repair & detailing: back end damage, lube job, toyota suv

Question
Last spring my 2003 honda civic was rear-ended by a 1992 Toyota SUV.  The SUV pushed me into the buick in front of me.  The entire trunk was pushed in and had to be held down with a bungee cord, and the impact also caved in the rear passenger side quarter panel.  The front of my car looked basically ok, but I knocked the buick's bumper off.  I was confused b/c the first insurance adjuster I talked to said the car may be totalled due to the fact that the impact caused some damage to the interior(the latch to lay the back seat down for additional storage broke, the sunroof shade was thrown open, and all loose items in the car were thrown against the dash and broke) and that could signify hidden damages.  The body shop told me it looked like I was hit pretty hard, and they indicated the doors didn't line up correctly anymore.  The doors sounded pretty bad when they shut, too.  However, damages only came to about 4k.  The car was put on a frame stretcher, but a visual inspection of the frame by an insurance adjuster (for a DIV claim) seemed to indicate the frame was not bent, that was just done to straighten the quarter panel.  The car seemed fine at first, but I am noticing a couple little things now.  First of all, I heard a grinding sound in the rear of the car for a while when I backed out of a parking space and cut the wheel.  It magically stopped, but it may be back.  I have a slight rattle in my dashboard when the defroster/heat is on, and I have noticed condensation inside the car on the windshield close to the dash.  Also, if I hit a good sized-bump I get a squeak in the rear of the car.  Are these things normal?  I could be paranoid and imaging things.  Thanks!

Answer
Maybe its time to trade in the Honda. It sounds like you have worn out brake linings, condensation on the inside of the windscreen can be normal, squeaks under hard jolts may be normal, it may just need a lube job- it sounds like you wanted it totaled, and in your heart it will never be right- so why beat your brains out trying to listen to every little squeak and rattle, assuming that it's accident related? Get rid of it. You will never be happy until you do. just a little friendly advice. bill
