-----Question-----
on the rear door just below the window left hand side, theirs a spot about 2x3 where the paint looks like its just lifting off or flaking off,can thisbe easily fixed by myself,,Brad
-----Answer-----
If there is grey primer underneath, it's the start of what is called delamination. within a year, the car will start getting these spots all over it, and the entire car will need the color coat sanded off and refinished. I have no idea of your paint skills or equipment, so I'm going to say take it to a professional. If they say it needs painted overall, I would carefully weigh the option of just letting it go. Bill   Bill this is a very well maintained 1988 volvo this is the only problem it  has, the rest of the car is like new 67k no rips on interior ,ext no dents scratches etc,,have owned volvos for a number of years now  and have done all my own work,,,,Brad

Answer
Hell again brad! If your Volvo is a prized posession, as you have described it to be, I highly suggest professional help. Once again, you have given me no indication of your tools and ability, so I am led to believe that they are marginal. Do you want a marginal repair on your car? The best repairs are the ones that no one knows you did, and I promise you , if you have no body repair experience, the repair WILL  show.  I can't teach you how to do a professional quality restoration type repair in an e-mail. Year One, in the literature section, has a book called How to repair and restore bodywork. I highly recommend it. It will tell you everything you need to do a paint job, down to tools and equipment, plus it has illustrated directions. Yes, I sometimes give people pretty detailed instructions on how to go about a repair, sometimes I suggest literature, other times professional help. I just go by feel, based upon what info I was provided by the questioner. I want you to be happy with the repair, and everything i see here says you need a professional body shops help. The paint peeling problem needs diagnosed by a body shop so that you know if it's an isolated spot, such as an old repair coming apart, or a more serious problem, such as delamination. i can't make that assessment without seeing the car in person. Get in the Volvo, and go to a body shop. That is the best I can tell you. Painting a car isn't like painting the living room, it takes time, knowledge, and talent. Bill
