Auto body repair & detailing: scratches, grades of sandpaper, swirl remover

Question
I was just wondering if rubbing compounds are ok for cars with clear coats. If they are, how come the place I used the rubbing compound on is fuzzy(like scratchy)even after using a scratch and swirl remover with wax?
Thank you for your time!
Sincerely, Travis from FL

Answer
There are different grades of "rubbing compound" like there are different grades of sandpaper.  If you use a "cleaner", which is the more modern term for compounds, you want something light if you are applying by hand.  To get your own scraches out, try Dual Action Cleaner by Meguair's, and follow that up with Deep Crystal System Polish, or similar wax/polish.  Many times, hand applications don't come out perfect because it's easy to use uneven pressure, and hard to overlap the application action.  Use a soft terry cloth rag if you don't have a fancy applicator, and use small even circular motion to mimic a polishing pad on a buffer.
Hope that helps.

PS you may want to toss your rubbing compound if it scratches badly
