Nissan Repair: 97 ENGINE SWAP, high mileage, computer wiring

I have a 97 maxima with the dual over head engine with a bad oil leak and high mileage and would like to swap to a newer engine.  I know the chassis is the same until 03
(and i believe the motor mounts line up) but can you please tell me what it would intale to swap in a 2000-01 engine, computer, wiring harness, etc, or better yet what i would rather do the 255hp 02-03 engine. and one other question, would the digital climate controle plug right in or would i have to start splicing wires? any info would be a great help!!  thanks so much!

I would go with any engine that is 2000 or earlier since newer than that you get into drive by wire electronic throttles.  The VQ should swap in using your old engine mounts and make sure you keep the old engine nearby to swap sensors that do not fit your wire harness.
