Auto body repair & detailing: restoration of rusted rocker panel, chevy trucks, gmc jimmy

Question
I bought a '72 GMC Jimmy, has less than usual body rot,but still want to restore. Ive noticed that the door edge of floor, rocker box and rocker panels have began to rust through, more so towards the front where the door post meets the floor. I see various parts are available but not knowing exactly what to ask for. Also need to know what level of expertise/equipment (other than basic) I will need. I was a tech for 25yrs but have little body work experience.
                Thanks in advance

Answer
Tom, I found some info for you. Year one has a parts catalog for 67-87 chevy trucks. In the literature section, there is a book called "how to restore your Chevy Truck" part no. BG99. I'm sure that it will cover any repairs you will encounter, and as a former tech, I'm sure that you can appreciate the value of a good repair manual. I looked at the online parts catalog, and it sucks. There were no pictures of the rocker panels, but the description leads me to believe that they are the extended type. I highly suggest ordering a real catalog at yearone.com Hope this helps. Bill
