Auto body repair & detailing: how to check if the frame repair is properly done?, frame damage, legal obligation

Question
Ken,

I am also wondering, when I pick up my car back, am I supposed to get some kind of warranty? The body shop I went to didn't ask me to sign any paper before they started the repairing job. Is it a common practice in the industry?

Thanks!

I recently had a car accident -- rear left side collision. The estimate I got include a line "Unibody-frame incl setup," the labor units are 1.5, and the total labor units for frame are 6.0 Does that mean it's a major frame damage? (the total estimate is $4,210) What should I look for to decide whether the frame repair is properly done?

Thanks!

Answer -
Look over the car good make sure the door gaps and trunk gaps are even. Also make sure it drives down the road straight. Look at the frame make sure there are no dents or kinks in it. Just because they have 6 hours to repair don't mean it is badly damaged. Trust your repair shop or get one you can.

Answer
I would assume that this is a insurance claim for the repairs and they have a legal obligation to repair the car to pre-accident condition. So your car should be repaired to your satisfaction through them. Also your repair shop of choice should have some kind of warranty as well. I would ask them now before your car is even done. If they don't have one call the insurance company and let them know that the shop don't stand behind their work. And yes they should have had you sign some kind of repair order when you dropped off your car for repairs maybe just a over site on their part. Just call the body shop and ask them to explain the warranty process.
         Thank you again !
