Auto body repair & detailing: underlayment, pontiac bonneville, 2000 pontiac bonneville

Question
Sliding in the snow while making a left turn, I ran into the curb tearing a piece of black plastic piece by my front tire, it's about a 12"X12" piece exposing my washer fluid tank. It's on a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville. Is there a way to reattach that piece?  I am going to take it to my mechanic to make sure no damage is done other then that to make sure, or will he have to replace the whole plastic?  I am sure its for keeping the motor from getting wet.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks, Bruce West, Cedar Rappids, IA

Answer
Bruce,
The piece you are refering to is the inner fender or also called the spalsh sheild or fender liner.  The cost of this part is probably around $ 40-50.00.  It would be more cost efficient just to replace this part instead of trying to repair.  Contact your local GM dealer.  It is much easier to replace this part if you can get it on a lift and take the wheel off.
Thank you,
