Subaru Repair: 2.2 engine swap, dowel pins, mount nuts

Hi i am currently in the process of replacing the engine in my 96 impreza. However i cant figure out what is still holding it in. How many bolts hold the tranny and engine together and do i need to jack the car up under the transmission to make sure the engine clears everything once i can get it out?

Hi Jeremy,

You have 2 lower bell hosing nuts, 2 upper bolts, two motor mount nuts, torque converter bolts if it is an automatic, there are also 2 dowel pins that can cause the motor to stick to the trans, and may require penetrant or punching out the dowel pins.
