Auto body repair & detailing: paint on fiberglass RV, coat colors, rv manufacturers

Question
I have a 1999 Cruise Master RV with fiberglass body. It is white, brown, red. The Red paint is hot to touch, brown very warm, white cool. The red paint has 100s of cracks about 1/2 inch long, brown has a lot of cracks, no problem with the white. I wrote to the paint company they told me that I did not take of the paint right. I wash it when nessessery with auto soap and wax it 2 to 3 times a year. I feel it is one of two things, poor paint or put on wrong. I use the same soap and wax on my car with no problems. Am I out in lefe field on this or is there another problem --Don

Answer
Hello Don,
This is not unusual.  The base coat colors sticks well, but the clearcoat does not.  Some RV manufacturers do not get the importance of using a high quality clearcoat or they use a clearcoat that is not compatible with the base coat colors.  We also have a Winnebago that did the same thing (cracking)and the clear eventually started peeling off. Being your RV is a 1999, we suggest taking it back to the dealer to see if they will have it repaired for you.
Thank you,
Mike and Lisa
