Auto body repair & detailing: Scratch removal, minor scratches, scratch removal

Question
Dave,
I have a 2001 white Honda Accord. On the passenger door I noticed that I had some scratches which were probably from my wife's finger nails  getting in and out.  I used some white polishing compound made by Turtle Wax, which I now regret using.  I had a hard time removing the white +polishing compound but finally got it off. Now I have very fine scratches in the paint from the compound. Not noticeable but if you look at the door from the side you can see them. Plus, I know they are there. Any suggestions on what I can use to remove or cover them over.

Answer
  hi joe,
sometimes if you use rubbing compound by hand it will leave minor scratches. if you go to your local auto parts store and ask them for a fine finishing compound  this should remove the fine scratches. in most cases machine buffing will remove more scratches than hand buffing, you may have to use a electric or air buffer to finish removing the scratches. then rewax the area. thanks for writing.
