Auto Glass: rear quarter glass louver removal, Mercedes Benz

Question
Hello Derek:
I have a 1978 Mercedes Benz 450 SLC.\, the rear quarter glass has a plastic louver sandwiched between the inner and outer glass. Can you advise me on how to remove these louvers to refurbish them? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Dennis

Answer
Hi Dennis,

I Have never done one of these ever!
But I did find this on the Mercedes Benz Car Club Website
Everyone says this is one Bitch of a Job!

( How to remove the back quarter louvers on a 1979 Mercedes Benz.
The instructions are in the repair manual, the hardest part is finding all the screws behind trim pieces. It's under body and chassis, removal of shutter. Beware the shutter is sandwiched between two panes of glass, one inside and one out.)

They talk about what sounds like an Insulated unit housing these Louvers inside. As I have stated I do not know how this glass comes out but once you do get the unit out,
Remove the one piece off the other by using Piano wire and two box wrenches working in a sawing motion to cut the seal away,

Do not uses Liquid Nails to glue the unit back together like some guy on there did, 3M Urethane adhesive will work best.

Most guys Doing this Job keep referring to a W107 maintenance CD?
I Wish I could give you more help. Let me know how it works out!!

         Hope This Helps! Derek =D
