Question
Hello Ben.
I have a power window problem in a 2002 ford windstar. the drivers side window and both rear wing windows quit working several months ago, the passengers side just stopped working two days ago and is stuck in the down position. i do not hear a clicking noise. i tried a new switch and plugged it in, but the windows still not move.

HELP!!!!!!!!

Answer
Hi Rick,

The most common power window problem with this vintage of Windstar van is a faulty window motor.  I believe there are two fuses for the power window circuit.  First, check to confirm that those two fuses are good.  The owner's manual will tell you which fuses are for the windows and where they are located.  If the fuses are good, you can try the following "test" to confirm the motor problem on the passenger door.

1.  Start the engine with the vehicle in "Park".

2.  Sit in the passenger seat and open the door.

3.  Reach over with your left hand and press/hold the "up" window switch.

4.  With your right hand shut the door firmly while continuing to press the window switch with your left hand.

5.  If the motor doesn't run again after the first try, try once or twice more.

If the window works after this "test", that confirms that the window motor is the problem.  I would suspect that it will also be the problem on the driver's door as well.

If the passenger window motor doesn't work after the "test" you may have a more complicated issue that will require the help of a good mechanic or window technician.

Send a follow up question to let me know what happens.
